Cooler Master Mars and Eclipse CPU Coolers
October 31, 2006

Mars Examination:

The images below show the ends of the heat pipes which are covered by a piece of aluminum which has the Cooler Master logo. In this view you can also see the supports for the aluminum fins, which like the Eclipse, are held apart by supports and holes punched through the fins. The cover of the heat pipes is easily removable. Once it is removed you can see the ends of the heat pipes. Cooler Master has also put some thermal compound between the heat pipes and the block of aluminum which the fins were cut from. Cooler Master uses three heat pipes on the Mars, which puts two on one side, and one on the other.

The bottom of the heat pipe cover does not contain any thermal compound, but it does have some slots for the heat pipes to slide into.

Looking at the bottom of the cooler, you can see where the fins meet the copper base.

Taking a look at the side of the cooler you can see why the name Mars is appropriate for this cooler. The cooler looks a lot like a space ship from the side. You might also notice that you can not easily see the fan. This cooler has the fan enclosed inside the fins, and Cooler Master says this accelerates the heat dissipation. I could not see an easy way to replace (or clean) the fan should the need arise, which could be an issue.
