OCZ Technology 600W EvoStream Modular SLI Power Supply
December 12, 2006

Conclusion:

The OCZ Technology 600W EvoStream Modular SLI Power Supply is a good power supply for the average enthusiast and gamer. It easily provides enough power for a SLI configuration with quad 12V rails, while maintaining a 75% efficiency rating. The modular cables are beautifully wrapped and will allow the end user to clean up the inside of their case and to increase airflow. The cables will also give the interior of your case just a touch of class as they are UV reactive.

While the 4-pin Molex has been the standard power connector for many years, I would have preferred to have seen a few more SATA connectors and a few less 4-pin connectors. Taking a look at my four systems, the only Molex connectors I need are for an optical drive and for one system which needs two Molex connectors for a removable hard drive chassis. Although, you can get converters for your Molex to SATA needs (and vice versa), it is something to consider.

I had problems reaching all locations in my Thermaltake Eureka case, this case is larger than most, and is not the audience that OCZ has designed this power supply for. This power supply is designed for mid towers, and for the average enthusiast. It is not designed for the power user or heavy gaming systems. For those systems, you would be better off with the OCZ GameXStream, which is designed for those situations.

A search of PriceGrabber finds the OCZ Technology 600W EvoStream Modular SLI Power Supply for sale at several outlets starting at just over $160 (US). The OCZ GameXStream 600W can be found for about $30 less than the EvoStream, and although the GameXStream is not modular, in my testing the 700W version was more stable than the EvoStream.

Given the performance and quality features I award the OCZ Technology 600W EvoStream Modular SLI Power Supply the rating of "Recommended".
