Hiyatek CF-6159-1 Laptop Cooler with USB Hub
December 04, 2006

Bigbruin.com has recently been taking a look at products from a corner of the computer cooling market that we had not previously visited... notebook coolers. These devices aren't anything new, but the attention they are receiving seems to be heightened as notebooks have become more affordable, more powerful, and many times purchased as a desktop replacement.

Hiyatek is a relatively unknown name in the computing scene, but they created a good first impression with us by providing the first notebook cooler we reviewed, the HY-CF-6157-01 Laptop Cooler with Card Reader and USB Hub.

They recently contacted us about reviewing another one of their notebook coolers, model number CF-6159-1, shown in the promotional image above. This new cooler offers a simpler design with fewer bells and whistles than the first Hiyatek unit we reviewed, but hopes are that it can offer solid performance at an even lower cost. Before jumping into the review, here is some published data on the Hiyatek CF-6159-1 Laptop Cooler with USB Hub, as taken from the packaging.

Features:

» Two 60mm silent fans for superior heat dissipation
» Contractibility design for all kind of laptop
» Lightweight and portable cooling solution
» Power switch function with blue LED
» USB powered, easy for traveling
» Fan on/off switch function
» Blue LED for power state
» Adjustable knob design for typing angle

Specifications:

» Dimension (close): 304*28*180 mm
» Dimension (open): 304*28*296 mm
» USB Hub: USB 2.0 downstream *3
» Material: ABS
» Fan Dimension: 60*60*10 mm
» Fan RPM: 2500 RPM
» Noise Level: 23 dBa
» Voltage Rating: 5V
» Power Cord: USB cable
» Application: For all laptop

Other than not being keen on the term "contractibility", the features and specifications are straightforward. It will be interesting to see if the feature's claim of the fans being silent works when considering that the specifications state they are 60mm, 2500 RPM, and 23 dBa. My experience tells me those "facts" might not mix well, especially without the benefit of a fan speed controller.

Packaging:

The Hiyatek CF-6159-1 arrived in the box shown below. It shows several views of the cooler and its various parts, as well as detailing the features and specifications. The box makes it clear that two versions are available, white and black, and we will be taking a look at the black one.
