For the most part, hard drives are installed into a case in the spaces provided by the case manufacturer. Usually they provide three dedicated slots for hard drive installation which to some people is two more than enough, but some enthusiasts use more than the standard three slots. Extra drives can be stuffed into an extra 3.5" bay that is normally for floppy drive but they never seem to fit like into a normal hard drive cage. For that reason, and also for hot swap capabilities, users will like to use an internal hard drive enclosure that uses a 5.25" drive bay.
Icy Dock makes many variations of hard drive enclosures, both internal and external. They cover many technologies that include IDE, SATA 1&2, SCSI, and RAID devices which enhance expandability, security, portability, and functionality.
Icy Dock sent us over two of their internal SATA enclosures for us to take a look at. The models we received are from the MB122 and MB722 series; models MB122SKGF-1B and MB722SKGF-B. Both of these enclosures mount into any available 5.25" device bays of any computer case.
