Tagan Turbo Jet 1100W Power Supply
November 09, 2006

Internal Examination:

Opening the unit (which will void any warranty) by removing four screws; you can see the internal components of the power supply. The first thing that caught my attention was the two large heatsinks. Usually they are large, but not as large as these. In addition to the size, they are also shaped differently. Instead of being flat, they are rounded. This should allow better airflow through them and permit more heat to dissipate. Nestled between the heatsinks are two large transformers. Other than that, the rest of the power supply is fairly normal. The components are smaller than I expected, especially for a 1,100W power supply. Looking at a side view of the power supply shows two large capacitors, as well as how tall the heat sinks are when compared to the capacitors.

Turning to the other side, you will find the area where the power cables enter the chassis. As you can see, the cable wrapping continues inside the chassis. Next to the fan power connectors there is a tiny potentiometer which can be used to adjust the output voltage going to your equipment. You can also see that the fan connectors are standard, so if you were inclined to do so, you could change the fans to something more to your liking.

As I mentioned, the exhaust fan is dimpled so it looks like a golf ball. I was impressed by the dimpled Sharkoon fan I reviewed, so I expect this fan will help keep the internal components cool with minimal noise.

Installation:

Here you can see the size of the Tagan 1100W power supply. On top of the Tagan I have placed the Ultra X-Connect VS 600W, while below the Tagan is the Enermax Galaxy 1000W. As you can see, the Tagan is larger than a standard power supply, however it is not a giant like the Enermax Galaxy .

Installing the Tagan 1100W power supply is no more difficult than any other power supply. The hardest part of the installation may be properly routing the cables. While the cables are long enough to reach any location in the Thermaltake Eureka, the extra PCI-E and motherboard power cables are stiff and not very easily bent.
