Ultra Products X-Finity 500W PSU with Active PFC
August 30, 2006

Packaging:

The Ultra Products X-Finity 500W PSU with Active PFC is sold in the attractive box shown below. In true Ultra Products fashion, you get plenty of images, all the features and specifications, and just about as much information as could be fit onto a box this size.

Inside the box we see that the power supply is wrapped in a plastic bag and suspended in a foam frame for protection. In addition to the power supply you receive a basic manual, a pack of mounting screws, and an AC power cord.

External Inspection:

Taking a first look at this unit may have some thinking it looks rather boring. Drab black everywhere. It might not have the eye-catching flare of previous X-Finity units, but it has a certain appeal to me.

It definitely has a more serious appearance, and as I said previously, it just looks mean. A black 135mm fan is mounted behind a black fan grill, and the entire enclosure is aluminum with a flat black finish.

Where the typical X-Finity shows finger prints easily due to the mirror-like finish, this one doesn't really suffer from that problem. What I did notice is that a few times my finger nails or knuckles did leave marks on the finish. It actually seems that the flat finish acts as a micro file removing small bits of soft material that brushes against, but have no fear, it is easily wiped clean.
