Zippy (EMACS) GSM-6600P and PSL-6720P Power Supplies
November 08, 2006

Internal Inspection:

By removing either 4 screws (600W) or 9 screws (720W) we get to see the internal components of each PSU (doing so will void your warranty) The smaller of the power supplies is jam packed with components, including two very large aluminum heat sinks, lots of capacitors, and an 80mm exhaust fan. On both models there is a small rubber mat that acts like thermal paste to transfer heat from the sink to the housing (shown in the first picture) to dissipate some of the heat outside the PSU. These units actually use their housing to help with cooling.

The larger of the power supplies has a little more breathing room for airflow. It has the same 80mm exhaust fan, but adds a smaller 40mm fan for a little extra flow on the one side. This unit has four large heat sinks with a massive one sitting in the middle. Both units have a small clear sliver of plastic to prevent components from touching the outside casing.

Installation:

Installing the 600W into my NZXT Adamas case was pretty smooth. As you can see there is a few inches of clearance between the back of the power supply to the back of the longest 5.25" bay device. I knew installing the 720W (8.67 inches) would be some task inside my mid tower case. I was determined and it did fit. However I had to slide my long 5.25" bay device out to accommodate the longer power supply. I screwed the 720W in extra tight to keep it from falling out (just in case).
