Thermalright HR-05 IFX SLI Chipset Cooler
August 17, 2007

Conclusion:

The Thermalright HR-05 IFX SLI is a great choice for someone looking to upgrade a noisy chipset cooler, or for someone who simply wants a better performing cooler for their hot chipset. If your system has an SLI setup and the chipset is directly under a card, this is just about the perfect upgrade.

My only issue with the product is with the mounting hardware. Using the spring loaded clip and M3 nuts didn't allow a tight fit on the test motherboard, and you might need bigger washers or shorter screws to really get things tight. This issue may not exist on all motherboards, and it may not be quite the same on boards with different layouts, but if it does arise it should be easily remedied with a few extra washers and some electrical tape.

Searches of PriceGrabber and Google did not find any online stores with this unit in stock, but if I were to venture a guess I would say it should sell for about $30-$35 (US). We'll keep you posted in the forum if we get any new information on price and availability.

Considering the impressive cooling performance and silent operation, the Thermalright HR-05 IFX SLI chipset cooler earns the Bigbruin.com awards of "Highly Recommended" and "Whisper Quiet".

Pros:

» Great passive cooling
» Could be used with a 80mm fan (not included)
» Compatible with SLI setups

Cons:

» Mounting hardware didn't work right with test system
