The Basics:
With the
Vantec Iceberq 6 removed from the packaging, we can take a closer look at what makes this cooler work.
The first thing I noticed was the large copper heatsink in the middle of the cooler. On one side, there is a small centrifugal fan which should provide a good amount of airflow across the copper heatsink fins. The final thing I noticed was the exhaust bracket. To make a video cooler as universal as possible, you have to account for multiple locations of the GPU. Vantec has made the exhaust bracket adjustable so you will be able to use this cooler on a wide variety of GPUs.
In the above right image you can see the removable exhaust bracket by itself. In addition to being able to increase/decrease the distance between the exhaust bracket and the fan, you can also adjust the height of the exhaust bracket.
Flipping the cooler over you find the solid copper base of the heatsink (below left image). To allow this cooler to work on many different GPUs
Vantec has given you four different locations for the mounting screws.
On a video card, you have more than just a GPU to cool. Cooling the memory on the video card can be just as important as cooling the GPU. Vantec has included eight little heatsinks for you to apply to the memory chips (above right image). These heatsinks are solid copper and do not include any thermal paste on them. You have to apply double sided thermal pads to the chips prior to applying them to the memory.
In the image below we see that Vantec has included all the necessary accessories to install the Iceberq 6 and the memory heatsinks onto any compatible video card. The accessories are a fully detailed instruction sheet, a small tube of Vantec thermal paste, a three pin to four pin power adapter, springs, washers, and screws. Finally there are eight double sided thermal pads to be applied to the memory heatsinks.
