Vantec Iceberq 6 VGA Cooler
January 18, 2007

Testing:

To test the cooling potential of the Vantec Iceberq 6, I assembled a test system with the following equipment in order to monitor the GPU thermal results.

» Intel Pentium 4 - 2.8GHz
» MSI PM8M-V Motherboard
» Cooler Master RC-280 Case
» PNY GeForce 6600GT AGP card
» AverMedia Purity 3D MCE 500 Dual Tuner TV card
» D-Link DWL-G520 Wireless NIC
» 2GB (2x1024MB) Samsung PC3200 DDR memory
» 1x 250GB Western Digital hard drive
» Memorex DVD/CDRW
» 10-in-1 Media Card reader
» Cooler Master Cool Drive IV

To test the cooling performance of the Vantec Iceberq 6 versus the stock cooler, the test system's GPU was heated up with by running 3DMark 2006 and Aquamark 3.

The chart below shows the temperatures reported by the Cooler Master CoolDrive IV. All temperatures were taken at default speeds. It is easy to see the difference in temperatures between the default PNY cooler and the Iceberq 6 cooler. A 7.5 degree decrease in temperatures under load conditions was achieved by switching from the stock cooler to the Iceberq 6! Keeping your card cool can improve stability and performance, as well as making it easier for you to overclock.

One of the nicest features of the Iceberq 6 is that it expels the hot air from your video card rather than keeping it within your case which can increase the overall temperature of your system. I verified the temperature of my case prior to installing the Iceberq 6, and it was running at 24.5 degrees Celsius. After I installed the Iceberq 6 the interior of my case was at 22 degrees Celsius. Dropping the interior of my case by 2.5 degrees Celsius is a great improvement, achieved simply by changing the cooler on my video card!
