Kingwin Revolution RVT-9225 Heatpipe Direct Touch CPU Cooler
October 24, 2007

Heatsinks with heatpipes have been the prefered method of air cooling processors for several years now. While the number of variations in design seems to be limitless, the basic principal has remained the same. A series of fluid filled pipes just behind the base of the heatsink lead up to a radiator for the processor's heat to be dissipated (either passively or with a fan).

Recently a few manufacturer's have tried their hand at improving this design by removing the base plate found between the processor and the heatpipes. By eliminating this extra interface and having the processor in direct contact with the heatpipes it is quite possible to improve thermal transfer and more effectively cool a processor.

Kingwin is one brand that has adopted this new approach, and they refer to the concept as HDT, or Heatpipe Direct Touch. Their Revolution RVT-9225 CPU cooler is shown in the promotional image above, and is one of the few units on the market to take the tried and true performance of a heatpipe cooler and give it a potential boost with "HDT Technology".
