Conclusion:
It is difficult to put the
Roadmaster USA Scrolling Digital License Plate Frame into a category with many other products on the market, especially any we typically review, but it is definitely a unique, interesting idea. The LEDs are bright and easy to read, and setup is fairly simple once you give the manual a quick read.
On the down side, the frame itself is rather drab and I would prefer to see some choices. Maybe a few colors, or a gloss black, or even a chrome version (as shown in the Roadmaster USA promotional images). That said, the flat black plastic should provide a canvas that would be easy to paint or otherwise customize by anyone with a bit of creativity. The other issue is one that will keep people from using it while driving... The remote control is infrared, and therefore requires a direct line of sight to frame to work.
A search of
PriceGrabber doesn't turn up anything for the RoadMaster USA frame, but it does show another brand selling for over
$120 (US). In my opinion that is an absurd amount of money for a license plate frame, no matter what it might do. Luckily, the Roadmaster USA site will lead you to a place to purchase their frame for
$59.99 (US). Although almost $60 is still alot of money for a license plate frame, a price that is less than half that of the competition is definitely more attractive!
For anyone who wants to personalize their car in a fairly novel way, the
Roadmaster USA Scrolling Digital License Plate Frame is definitely recommendable, and therefore earns the Bigbruin.com "Recommended" award.
Pros:
» LEDs are bright and easy to read, even at a good distance
» Novel way to further customize a vehicle
» Simple setup
» Price, when compared to other brands of scrolling digital license plate frames
Cons:
» Price, when compared to a standard license plate frames
» Frame itself is rather drab (but could be customized)
» Remote control requires direct line of sight to frame
