Testing:

To test the performance of the OCZ Technology ProXStream 1000W Power Supply, it was installed into a system with the following equipment...

» AMD X2 4200 AM2 processor @2750MHz
» Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe @250x11
» 2GB (2x1024MB) OCZ DDR2 8500 SLI RAM @2.3V
» 2GB (1x1024MB) OCZ DDR2 6400 EPP RAM @2.3V
» Killer M1 NIC
» 2 eVGA 7900GTO video cards in SLI
» 2x 80GB Hitachi Deskstar 3Gbps hard drive in RAID 0
» 1x 120GB Seagate 7200.9 SATA 3Gbps hard drive
» Memorex DVD/CDRW
» 10-in-1 Media Card reader
» Cooler Master CoolDrive IV
» Fans: 2x120mm LED

The following equipment was connected outside of the above machine using various splitters and baybus devices:

» 2 eVGA 7900GT video cards in SLI
» Sunbeam Ultra Fan Controller
» 15x 120mm LED Fans
» 10x 80mm LED Fans
» 4x 80GB Seagate SATA 3Gbps Hard Drives
» 4x 160GB Seagate SATA 3Gbps Hard Drives
» 2x 80GB Hitachi 2.5 SATA Hard Drives
» 1x Sony DVD-RW
» 1x NEC DVD-RW

For testing, the power supply was analyzed at both idle and load conditions and compared to other units with similar power ratings.

The idle condition was established by powering the system at default speeds and voltages with no applications running for a period of at least 30 minutes. The load condition was established by running Folding@Home and SiSoft Sandra 2007's Burn-in Wizard for a period of at least 60 minutes. In addition to these stressful applications running, the loaded system was overclocked and overvolted to add more demand to the CPU. These voltages were taken using a Craftsman Auto-Ranging Multimeter (Model 82139), and checked with the Asus Probe II motherboard monitoring tool.

The 5V rail was pushing exactly 5.0 Volts at idle and load, giving it a 100% match to the official rating. The 12V and 3.3V rails were providing a little more power than the specification in idle conditions, with the 12V rail providing the greatest difference at 0.13 Volts over. The 12V and 3.3V dropped a little under load conditions, but the fluctuation were both less than 0.1%! Considering that +/- 5% is acceptable, the performance can be considered rock solid.


Comparing the OCZ Technology ProXStream 1000W Power Supply to several other 1000W units, the OCZ ProXStream was found to be the most stable of the bunch. The Enermax Galaxy EGA1000EWL 1000W, and the Tagan Turbo Jet 1100W had similar load voltage readings, but the difference between idle and load were greater, and their 5V rails dropped below the official ratings.
