OCZ Technology Equalizer Laser Gaming Mouse
June 22, 2007

Consider the evolution of a computer mouse - moving from a single button, then a left and right mouse button, now three buttons is the norm. Lasers have replaced tracking balls, and wireless technology has even done away with that wire tying us to our desks. What feature will become the standard in tomorrow's mouse technology? Let's take a look at the Equalizer Laser Gaming Mouse from OCZ Technology to see if they have the next generation technology for computer mice.

As shown in the promotional image above, the Equalizer definitely has the style for gaming, but does it back up the sharp looks with the necessary performance? Before taking a look at the OCZ Technology Equalizer Laser Gaming Mouse provided for review, let's take a look at some of the key features and specifications from the OCZ Technology website...

Features and Specifications:

The specifications for the OCZ Technology Equalizer Laser Gaming Mouse are listed below. The most notable features are the high DPI capability of the laser engine, the capability to switch the sensitivity of the mouse without software (using the 6-DPI-Shift button), and the "triple threat button" that some people may argue is cheating since it allows you to click the mouse once but shoot three times in a game.

» 2500 DPI Gamer-Grade Laser Engine
» On mouse 6-DPI-Shift (400-800-1200-1600-2000-2500)
» Implements Agilent 6010 Chip and high-speed 7080 FPS technology
» Triple Threat Button - 1 click, 3 shots for a gaming advantage
» Dual laser engine for enhanced tracking on a wider range of surfaces
» Right-handed ergonomic design
» Gold-Plated USB Connector
» Thin, flexible wire design feels like using a wireless mouse but without sacrificing latency
» Convenient 'back' & 'forward' buttons
» Comfortable, no-slip grip for intense gaming battles
» Plug and Play
» Included Equalware software for complete customization
» 6 Year Warranty

The only item OCZ Technology seems to neglect is a critical one - the mouse weight! Many of you would probably like a light weight mouse (like the Equalizer), but others like a heavier mouse, or being able to adjust the mass of their mouse with small weights. Unfortunately, OCZ Technology does not offer any means for adjusting the mass of this mouse.

Packaging:

The OCZ Technology Equalizer Laser Gaming Mouse arrived securely packaged in a combination of a cardboard and plastic, as shown below. The key features and specifications of this device are printed on just about every side of this box, and you get a good look at the mouse itself through the window on the front.
