Thermaltake V1 and MaxOrb CPU Coolers
May 22, 2007

The Basics (continued):

The Big Typhoon VX is designed very much like a traditional cooler... just a really big traditional cooler. The unit itself has a copper base with 3 heat pipes per side (for a total of 6) that rise from the base and into the aluminum fins. On top of the fins is a 120mm fan and fan grill. The bottom of this cooler is relatively smooth, but not a mirror finish like the V1 or MaxOrb.

Something to note is that a fan speed controller is hard mounted to the top of the Big Typhoon VX in one corner. If you have a smaller case, there could be an issue with reaching the control or just the overall height of the assembly.

Accessories:

The V1 and MaxOrb come with the accessories that I would expect from an aftermarket cooler; instructions and all the necessary mounting hardware needed to secure the unit to just about any motherboard.

It would be nice to see these higher end coolers come with 3-pin to 4-pin Molex adaptors, as some people prefer to use power straight from their PSU, instead of the motherboard headers. This is a relatively minor grumble as everything else so far has been spot on.
