Ultra Products ChillTec Thermo Electric CPU Cooler
March 14, 2007

Conclusion:

I have used many different Ultra Products brand items over the past few years, and while some have been extremely impressive, others have returned average results. This is the first Peltier cooler I have ever used and I have to admit I am impressed by how well it works! Receiving an almost ten degrees Celsius drop in load temperatures can help to prolong the life of a processor, and can be a great asset while overclocking.

The biggest issue / complaint I have with this cooler is easily the need to have access to the back of the motherboard. While this is not an issue if the cooler is being installed during the initial setup of a system, adding it to an existing system is a bit more of a hassle. The second issue is that I would like to see the cable connecting the cooler to the controller changed to include a standard fan connector to make it easier to change the fan.

A search of PriceGrabber returns one result, Tiger Direct, where the price tag is $129.99. For a standard air cooler this would be a crazy price, but for the performance of a Peltier cooler like this the price might seem more reasonable.

Given the performance, low noise output, and high quality features, I award the Ultra Products ChillTec Thermo Electric CPU Cooler the rating of "Recommended".

Pros:

» Great cooling ability
» Functional and attractive controller
» Quiet

Cons:

» Can't change fan easily
» Installation requires access to back of motherboard
