Ultra Products X3 1000 Watt Modular Power Supply
September 17, 2007

Cables:

Ultra Products packages their cables separately from the power supply which helps to keep it from getting scratched by the ends of the cables. The cable box is similar to the outer box, as it is solid black with the Ultra X3 logo. Inside the box, the cables are not separated by type, put together in one large bundle; there is nothing wrong with this, as they do not get easily tangled together.

The below left image shows the 4-pin drive connectors, 3-pin fan connectors, and SATA drive connectors all laid out. At the top we have the shortest 4-pin drive cable, and then four longer power connectors, providing a total of ten 4-pin drive connections and two floppy connectors. In the middle is a 4-pin to 3-pin fan adaptor cable which can provide power to three standard fans. At the bottom are the SATA cables; two of which use the standard 4-pin drive connector to attach to the PSU, while two others use the 5-pin connector mentioned previously. The cables with the 4-pin connectors will power two SATA devices, while the cables with the 5-pin connectors will power three SATA devices. The second picture provides a close-up view of the end of a 5-pin connector.

The next set of cables provides power to the motherboard. There is a 20+4 ATX motherboard power cables. Ultra Products then recognizes that some motherboards use a 4-pin auxiliary power connection, while others use an 8-pin connection. They could have provided you with one cable and split the connector like so many do, but instead Ultra Products has provided you with one cable for each scenario. This will help keep unused cables from cluttering the inside of your case.

The final set of cables are for video cards. If you look at the back of the power supply, there are four connections for "PCI-E" power cables. Ultra Products provides six cables; four that utilize 6-pins, and two that utilize 8-pins.
