Ultra Products X3 1000 Watt Modular Power Supply
September 17, 2007

Testing (continued):

For a final test on the Ultra Products X3 1000W unit's performance, the data from OCCT was reviewed after its standard 30 minute run. As this program runs, it stresses the system and it can monitor the various voltages (with the help of Everest Ultimate Edition in this instance). The charts below were generated for the 3.3V, 5V, and 12V rails, and as you can see, the total ripple was minimal and the rails are considered stable.

The 3.3V rail had a total ripple of 0.02V (or 0.61%). This rail was very stable, providing only a single instance of an increase in voltage.

The 5V rail had a total ripple of 0.06V (or 1.24%). While still considered stable, this rail was constantly fluctuating, although the amount of each change was quite small.

The 12V rail had a total ripple of 0.06V (or 0.49%). The 12V rail was fairly static with a few spikes from 12.1V up to 12.16V.

The data from the monitoring software was in general agreement with what the multimeter reported, and the use of each tool helps look at different aspects of the power supply's capabilities.

One final thought regarding this power supply is that it operated quietly enough to not be heard over the sounds produced by the rest of the system. Additionally, there was no increase in noise level when the power supply went from an idle condition to a heavy load condition.
