Conclusion:

Except for those running a massive system that includes a good deal of the latest hardware, 1000W is more power than you could possibly need. During the course of the review, the Ultra Products X3 1000 Watt modular power supply came close to powering two full systems, and there was still plenty of power left to toss much more hardware at it.

The Ultra Products X3 1000W unit provides the stable power that users demand, while also including a few extras they really want. These extras include a lifetime warranty (providing you register the unit), Active PFC, modular FlexForce cables, and a high efficiency rating! All of this makes this a power supply that will last a long time, and is an excellent choice for your current and next generation computer systems.


Ultra Products knows this is a massive power supply, and that it can power many more components than the average user has in their system. But that does not stop them from providing more power connectors than will be needed. They have also provided the cables necessary to power the present and next generation of PCI-E video cards, so you will not need to upgrade when the time comes to step up. Finally, Ultra Products has already begun to ensure the longevity of the power supply by providing you a unit with an 85% efficiency rating!

The only down side to this power supply is the under-voltage and slight fluctuations received during testing the main voltage rails. They were well within the acceptable +/-5% tolerance, but the readings from the 5V rail seemed to be particularly dynamic during the stress tests.

A search of PriceGrabber returns several stores with this unit in stock and available for between $249.99 and $299.99 (US). At $249.99, the Ultra Products X3 1000 Watt modular power supply is priced quite competitively with other 1000W power supplies that do not offer everything the X3 offers!

Given the performance, selection of connections, and overall high quality features I award the Ultra Products X3 1000W Modular Power Supply the rating of "Recommended".
