Xclio Stable Power 500W Power Supply
March 16, 2007

Installation and Operation (continued):

The chart below shows the idle and load voltages for the Xclio Stable Power 500W Power Supply. During the idle condition each of the rails was putting out anywhere from 1.7% to 3.7% over the official power ratings (well within the generally accepted tolerance of +/- 5%). During the load conditions each of the rails dropped; .4% (.02V) on the 5V, 1.15% (.14V) on the 12V, and 3.3% (.11V) on the 3.3V.

The next chart compares the load voltage readings of three power supplies; the Cooler Master iGreen 500W, the Ultra Products 600W XVS, and the OCZ Evostream 600W, as they compare with the Xclio Stable Power 500W.

Looking at the load voltage readings of each of the power supplies shows that they are fairly close to each other and that the Xclio was the only power supply to stay over official ratings in all of the load tests.

During my three week use of this power supply I noticed a significant increase in temperature of my computer room. Usually the room is held at around 18 to 20 degrees Celsius (65 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit), and while using this power supply I noticed the temperature increased to around 22 degree Celsius. Placing my hand at the exhaust of the power supply I could tell there was a large amount of hot air being pushed out the back. I have not been monitoring the exhaust temperature, but the increase is quite obvious and perhaps a sign of inefficiency.
