ASUS EEE PC 4G 701 Netbook
December 16, 2008

ASUS is one of the pioneers of the netbook phenomenon, as their seven inch EEE PC models were extremely popular when released. The EEE PCs are still going strong, but ASUS has expanded the line up to include units with different sizes and capabilities, and other manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon with models of their own.

This review is going to take a look at one of the original ASUS netbooks, the EEE PC 4G 701. Some people may already be wondering why? If this review was published over a year ago it may have been new and exciting, but now there are so many other options to choose from. The reason is that as new models are released, the slightly older ones become even more affordable. Couple this with the even lower prices thanks to Geeks.com getting their hands on a supply of refurbished units, and the price of the EEE PC 4G 701 makes them even more appealing.

The promotional image above provides a quick look at an ASUS EEE PC 4G 701 netbook... Just in case you didn't already know what one looked like. This tiny notebook computer allows you to handle all of the basic functions of a traditional notebook (and much more), without all the extra size and weight. Before taking a closer look at the sample provided for review, let's take a look at some of the features and specifications listed on the product page at Geeks.com.

For those familiar with the EEE PC line up from ASUS, the only thing that might be different about this particular "4G 701" is that it is refurbished and comes with a 90-day warranty. While an extended warranty is available for more money, by the time this review is over the warranty will be voided anyway, so it doesn't really matter. Simply opening a compartment under the unit to perform a memory upgrade, or to see if you can add another solid state drive, is all it takes to void the warranty.
