ECS GF7100PVT-M GeForce 7100 mATX Motherboard
March 31, 2008

Testing:

The test system listed in the "Configuration" section was used for the execution of all benchmarks, which include tests from these five packages:

» PassMark Performance Test v6.1
» FutureMark PCMark05
» FutureMark 3DMark06
» Lavalys Everest Ultimate Edition 4.20
» SimpliSoftware HD Tach RW 3.0.4.0

For comparison purposes, an older ECS mATX motherboard with integrated audio and video was run through the same tests. The RC410L/800-M is an LGA 775 motherboard that features ATI Radeon Xpress 200 graphics, and it should provide a good low cost point of reference.

PassMark Performance Test v6.1 offers a whole suite of benchmarks which can analyze the performance of most of your systems components. The complete suite was executed and a few composite scores were compared in order to provide an overview of system performance. In addition to "Marks" for CPU, Memory, and 3D Graphics, the overall PassMark Rating is shown in the chart below. Higher numbers are better for these unitless values.

If you ever run this test on a system of your own with a discrete graphics solution the first thing you will note is that the 3D Graphics Mark is pretty weak. While the integrated graphics on the ECS GF7100PVT-M does well with multimedia, here is the first number to show that gaming isn't its forte. On top of that, the memory score is well below what the same kit was capable of on a system that features a dual channel memory controller. With this PC2-8500 kit running at 800MHz on an ASUS P5KC it put up a score of 713.5, and here it only manages a 480.1

The next set of values to look at are from FutureMark's PCMark05. This is another suite of tests designed to provide an overview of a system's performance, and three results were taken from all the data provided. The chart below shows the HDD, Memory, and CPU scores, and higher is better for all values.

The memory score takes a hit here as it does in Performance Test v6.1, and I am used to seeing the same kit put up much higher numbers. Compared to the older ECS solution, the GF7100PVT-M does better in terms of HDD and Memory performance, but neither would make a serious computer enthusiast very happy.
