OCZ Technology Vendetta 2 CPU Cooler
May 23, 2008

Conclusion:

The original Vendetta cooler performs well and is still a great option for those with limited space, but the cooling performance and low noise operation of the Vendetta 2 are really impressive. By taking the original design and scaling it up to accept a 120mm fan, OCZ Technology has created an enthusiast grade cooler that isn't so large and heavy that it might cause installation issues. While some may prefer a more substantial mounting design, the relatively low weight of the Vendetta 2 allows for push pins to be used, which can make installation a breeze.

Two installation issues are the only negatives to discuss regarding this cooler. The first is that the push pin mounts used only for Intel based processors are difficult to secure given the size of the cooler. The aluminum fins overhang the tops of the push pins making it a bit tricky to get a finger in there with enough leverage to push down. Your best bet would be to attach the cooler to the motherboard prior to installing it into the case. The second issue was that I found the rubber fan mounts to be a bit difficult to install. It was a very tight fit, and two mounts wound up ripping and had to be forced into the holes using a screwdriver.

A search of PriceGrabber finds the OCZ Technology Vendetta 2 at a handful of online retailers for under $50 (US). $50 seems to be the neighborhood where many modern coolers can be found, so coming in just under that makes the Vendetta 2 competitively priced. When compared to the original Vendetta which sells for about $13 less (or roughly 40%), the difference in price seems pretty big.

The cooling performance and low noise operation of the OCZ Technology Vendetta 2 CPU cooler are definitely impressive and carry it past two trivial installation issues on its way to earning the award of "Highly Recommended".
