Packaging and Accessories:
The
Thecus N4100PRO 4-Bay network attached storage system is sold in the box shown below. You don't get much information, considering all that the device can do, but there probably isn't enough surface area to detail everything. What you do get is a look at the N4100PRO itself, as well as a picture of a woman who appears to be having way too much fun with a NAS device!
The box features a plastic handle on the top, which makes transporting the N4100PRO convenient and safe. Inside the box, all of the contents are well protected in plastic bags and foam forms that should keep things from being damaged.
The bundle of accessories is shown below. You get a quick installation guide, a warranty card, a power cable, a network cable, a bag containing screws to mount drives and keys to secure them in place, a disk with DriveClone 5 on it, and finally a disk with a manual and the "Thecus Setup Wizard" on it.
While more detailed instructions are available electronically, the printed documentation seems far too light. The entire setup is covered in just a few steps in the quick installation guide, and something like this really needs more information.
The Basics:
The N4100PRO, like most of the products from Thecus, looks just like a small form factor computer on the inside and outside. The black enclosure features steel sides and a plastic front bezel with a variety of buttons, indicator lights, an LCD panel, a single USB port, and vents to allow cool air in to the housing. The drive cage features a door that hinges open to reveal each of the four lockable drive trays. Accessing the drives with the N4100PRO is much easier and the design seems far more robust than what was found on the N3200.
The controls on the front of the N4100PRO are mainly to allow for the device to be powered up and down, and for information regarding things like network status, drive status, fan speed, and internal temperature to be monitored on the LCD panel.
