Testing:

The test system listed earlier in the review was used for the execution of all benchmarks, which include tests from these packages:

» Sisoftware Sandra Professional 2009.SP3
» PassMark Performance Test v7.0
» FutureMark 3DMark Vantage Professional 1.0.1
» Windows 7 Experience

For comparison purposes, the two 3GB kits were configured in four different ways in order to see what different speeds and capacities might do to system performance. The four configurations are detailed below:

» 4GB (2GB+2GB), 800MHz, 5-5-5-15 timings
» 4GB (2GB+2GB), 667MHz, 5-5-5-15 timings
» 3GB (2GB+1GB), 800MHz, 5-5-5-15 timings
» 2GB (1GB+1GB), 800MHz, 5-5-5-15 timings

We'll get an idea of how a 2GB, 3GB, and 4GB kit of 800MHz HyperX SODIMMs will perform, as well as seeing what kind of performance boost could be expected by upgrading from a 667MHz kit.

Sisoftware Sandra Professional 2009.SP3

Sisoft Sandra's memory benchmarks were executed first, and here we have values for Latency (in nanoseconds), a unitless Speed Factor, Float (in GB/s), Integer (in GB/s), and Aggregate Memory Performance (in GB/s). Lower values are better for latency and Speed Factor, while higher values are better for everything else.

The 2GB configuration takes the prize in all five tests, with the 4GB configuration at 800MHz coming in a close second. Overall the results are very close in all four configuration, and it might make it seem like it doesn't matter what configuration you use. The 1GB modules are probably a bit quicker than the 2GB modules, and using a balanced dual channel kit is obviously better than running a 3GB kit.
