I always password protect windows as well. I actually had created a separate account on the computer for our house sitter and I'm sure you're well aware of the fact that winxp isn't exactly very hard to get passwords off of once you have access to the computer. I know for a fact that he and his friends play wow an aweful lot because he asked me if he could install it on my computer and I told him it was already there. In any case it's old news now, my money was refunded I lost my characters forever (blizzards promise to me if I made them give my money back). No biggy. I've moved on to DDO, but haven't played that much lately either. _________________
1) Are you sure the emails you received weren't phishing?
1b)Did you check your account info by typing in the URL or did you just use the in-email link?
2) You can always dispute the charge with your banks. Some credit card companies won't even allow blizzard to charge to them unless you call in and have a note added to your CC Account stating that it be allowed. There's a high amount of fraud associated with WoW. It sounds like they've hired the AOL account reps, too.
3) WoW still sucks gigantic chocolate salty donkey balls. It's too cartoon like and the game mechanics are more like a claymation festival.

They froze my account, I couldn't log on either via the game or the online account management system I told them about the problem 3 times and then two weeks later they withdrew their 3 month payment from my checking account. I still couldn't log on so I made them give me my money back. They told me I would lose my characters and I told them that since I couldn't play the darned game anyway what difference would it make if I lost my characters. It wasn't a phiishing deal, unless the phishers are in cahoots with blizzard and got them to freeze the account. The deal is, prior to freezing my account I hadn't played in at least two months so someone had to be using my character and the only person who could have had access was our house sitter or one of his freinds. It has been a done deal now for 4 months, but I figured I would mention that I did have a password on my windows account, but what probably killed me was the fact that I had a couple password recovery programs in my downloads folder and it wouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to install one and retrieve my passwords. I should have wiped the cache and ensured that my password wasn't saved etc etc, next time we go on vacation and get a house sitter I'm going to take the freakin ram out of the computer. Damned kids!!!!! _________________
bios password for the win or, if you're me, you lock up the case so you can't even push the on button. Cases with doors that lock and prevent access to the power button are readily available.
They've got good crypto sticks that the stick has to be physically to boot the machine. No bigger than a thumb drive, never seen a machine using one breached.
I got 4 for 7 bucks apiece at Big Lots. Dont lose the key though or your facing a reload.
