My laptop is currently downloading Vista SP1 x64. It came through on automatic updates this morning. Now to see if it borks the system....................Hopefully not, I've finally got everything setup the way I like it. I've read that it can render some systems unbootable Sad I guess I'll know soon enough.

Is 32-bit out already? Or coming soon?

How about SP3 on XP?

If we don't see you for a while, I guess we know how well it went... Grin

I'm not sure, I thought vista sp1 wasn't supposed to be released until March, so I was a bit surprised to find it downloading this morning. it says the update is between 120Mb and 700Mb depending on the system.

I have updates disabled on my XP systems because there are certain programs I don't want updated (WMP for example). I would think if MS released the 64bit sp1 update for Vista, the 32bit version is either already out or not far behind.

It's installed and everything appears to be running normally.
I did get a BSOD and core dump about 10seconds after installation began, but after rebooting I restarted the install and everything seemed to proceed normally. It took about 30minutes to complete. Not sure what the benefits will be though.

About Windows (run winver) now shows:
Version 6.0 (Build 6001:Service Pack 1)

Yeah - You made me look around, and I call BS!

But, I do see that none of my XP or 32-bit Vista machines have any updates. SP3 for XP is still a release candidate... You can get it from MS if you want it.

It's not recalled, update KB937287 was. It was an update microsoft released in preparation for Vista SP1, but apparently it caused problems for some people. Although not me I guess because my update log shows it installed successfully on my system. The news here is that Vista SP1 wasn't supposed to be publicly available until mid March and yet it seems that it's available via windows update now. I wonder why and how come no one else seems to know about it.

Here's a screen shot of my update log and Windows Info box (a bit big, but I didn't want to shrink it so much it became unreadable)

PS. Some sharp eyed viewers may notice FAH running in the taskbar Wink This new t9300 (2.5Ghz core2duo w/ 6mb of cache) seems to perform pretty well for a laptop. Grin
