I read somewhere earlier today that SP1 may be as early as this month... I can't find where, now.

So I get the POS to install on another system and all goes well... Until I am in Vista and see that I am running on only 2 of 4 cores on my dual Opteron setup... Then I find the info that could have saved a few hours on the MS website...
| Quote: | | While all editions of Windows Vista can support multiple core CPUs, only Windows Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise can support dual processors. |
(I have Home Premium).
- there is no other system I want to run this on. Won't run on the system intended, steals two processors away here, and my HTPC and laptop took so long to configure with XP that they aren't being touched.

You are theoretically supposed to be able to upgrade to ultimate pretty easily once you have home premium installed, but it is expensive. I would return it and stick with xp pro for awhile longer.

Yeah - I looked at their BS upgrade path online... For $159 more I can have Ultimate. No thanks!

If all the apps I needed were there, sure. But I don't have the time to find/learn all new Linux stuff in the meantime. This license was supposed to be for my Daughter who had been running Fedora, but couldn't play all her games any more... So she got XP Home back with the plan to upgrade to Vista just for me to try it out. Wheee... Great plan.

I think the SP for Vista is actually a BETA!
I got the same BSOD on the initial install. Got it up and running on my game rig now. Now I just have to hope BF2 and HL2 run on it.
I did find that the F'ing WFW was blocking activation

I heard that Vista is slower for gaming than XP SP2. I wonder if SP1 will take care of that. But that's also for DX9 games, DX10 would of course have an edge on Vista.
