I have noticed that several sites have nearly the exact same layout and design in thier website design, but I never see any indication as to what software they used.

Can somebody help me out here? It looks like either a template, or a packaged site similar to vBulletin.

I can't say for certain, BB would need to give you that information. I would expect though it's a phpBB system, as that is what is powering the board.

the forums themselves will all look similar because many of them run phpBB (www.phpBB.com) however the website itself does not use a template as far as I know

Thanks for the quick feedback. I am curious what kind of CMS software package BB runs for his site, or if it's a custom build.

I believe BB coded the main site pages himself and they use the same phpBB database to grab the news stories. Not sure, though.

Blue|Fusion is right. The home page (and other content pages) are my fault, I mean design, for the most part.

The semi-dynamic side bar data ("In The Forum" and "Recent Content") is drawn from the forum by an automated script that drops the info into flat files for lighter server load. The center of the home page is dynamic, and just grabs the info from the forum as requested (will be chnaging that to flat files one day, too. The reviews are all flat files.

All of it is visually designed from scratch, and technically designed from hobbling different ideas and scripts together.

You would be correct. I really like the layout here at BB, and I needed some guidance. About three weeks after I posted this I opened Benchmark Reviews. Let me tell you first hand how much work this is... I can't even begin.

Now, if only BB would publish some of the news I send him. Bang Head
