OCZ Technology GameXStream 700W Power Supply Unit
June 02, 2006

Conclusion:

OCZ Technology has clearly demonstrated they can make high quality products other than memory. The 700W GameXStream is everything other power supplies should strive to be. During my testing of the GameXStream I did not see any fluctuation in the power output. With nice looks, Active PFC, high efficiency, and extremely stable power output, the GameXStream is the power supply to compare all others to. Either model will provide ample power for a SLI or Cross-Fire system, and with either 600W or 700W to choose from you will not be lacking in power.

Usually I can find some kind of issue with power supplies. Either the wrapping is not perfect, the rails are not 100% stable, there aren't enough connectors, or even the lack of a LED fan. None of these issues apply on the OCZ GameXStream. The only negative I can find is that it is not modular, but I can not hold that against it as the power supply is obviously not designed to be modular.

A search of PriceGrabber returned results listed as GamerXStream, not GameXStream. The 600W model is available between $125 and $150, while the 700W ranges from $155 to $170. At the time this review was written there is also a $13 mail in rebate from most stores carrying the GameXStream, letting you save a little money, too. Either model would be a great choice for your system, and the price of this power supply is very reasonable for such an extremely high quality unit.

I award the OCZ Technology GameXStream 700W Power Supply a final score of five out of five stars and the rating of "Highly Recommended".

Final Rating (5 out of 5 stars):

Pros:

» Extremely solid performance
» Long cables with plenty of easy grip connectors
» Six SATA connectors
» Great cabling wrapping
» Quiet 120mm LED fan
» High efficiency and active PFC

Cons:

» None!
