Cooler Master iGreen Power 500W Power Supply Unit
May 31, 2006

The Basics:

Removing the power supply from the packaging, it is time to look it over. The finish on the iGreen Power 500W is very shiny with a "titanium mirror finish". If you tend to show off your system, this power supply will surely grab some attention even if it is not the center of attention.

In this image you can see the 120mm fan positioned behind a standard black fan grill. This is easy to remove and replace, should you want a more flashy fan grill. Unless you open the power supply to hold the fan in place, take care on doing this as the fan could move and make it more difficult to install a different grill.

The left image shows off the typical sticker panel found on any power supply which details the basic specifications, approvals, and so on. If you look closely at the sticker you will see the 3.3V+ and 5V+ have a combined power output of 141W, which is a sufficient amount of power to these rails. I would like to have seen this value be a little higher. The image on the right shows off the rear of the PSU where the honey-comb openings allow for nearly unrestricted airflow, which will help keep all the internal components cool. There is no voltage switch that is commonly found on power supplies, because it auto regulates the power and switches automatically.

Below the power switch there is a red LED which will light up if there is a problem with the power supply. While I like this feature, I think it would be hard for many to tell there is an issue until it is too late since it is on the back of the computer where most people do not look until they are performing maintenance on their system.
