Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000
May 25, 2006

Conclusion:

Microsoft has come up with a great offering in the Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 Keyboard and Mouse set. With Geeks.com offering this combination at the bargain price of $56.99, anyone looking for a wireless desktop set up should give this one some serious consideration. Performance of both the mouse and keyboard were better than I had hoped for, and both maintained a strong signal no matter where in the room I used them from. The Wireless Laser 6000 mouse has also put to rest all of my apprehension over wireless mice in fast paced FPS video games.

Unfortunately battery life is a great unknown for me at this point. Microsoft offers no information regarding battery life for the Wireless Laser 6000 mouse or the Wireless Comfort Keyboard. I have about two weeks worth of use on the Energizer AA batteries that came with the Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 and the battery strength indicator in the driver interface has yet to move off of the highest level of "Good" for both the keyboard and the mouse.

I mentioned the fact that Geeks.com carries this set for $56.99, which really is a bargain when compared to other online stores. A search of PriceGrabber shows that most places are going to charge you $20-$50 more for the same items!

Because of the overwhelming amount of features, extreme programmability, great looks and feel, and high bang for the buck ratio, I give the Microsoft Wireless Laser 6000 Desktop Keyboard and Mouse set up a final score of 4.5 out of 5 stars, and the rating of "Highly Recommended."

Final Rating (4.5 out of 5 stars):

Pros:

» Flexibility of a wireless desktop set up
» Extreme programmability
» Ergonomic design makes both keyboard and mouse very comfortable
» Easy to use and stable software
» Stylish good looks
» Lots of specialty keys that are programmable to your needs

Cons:

» Not rechargeable - requires 4 AA batteries
» Media controls did not work with Winamp
