The tests showed that both PC2 5400 kits from
OCZ Technology were quite capable of providing solid results at or around the default speed of 667 MHz. If you are a gamer looking for enchanced latency DDR2 memory for that extra edge with minimal effort, either set would be worthy additions to your Intel based system.
The modules are capable of overclocking, and results may vary from system to system, but straight out of the box performance is something these modules were designed to offer. With OCZ's vast line up of memory products, if 667 MHz isn't enough for you, there is always their 800 MHz and 1000 Mhz modules to consider, too! In addition to offering faster kits, OCZ also offers these PC2 5400 kits in 2048MB configurations.
Searching
PriceGrabber can overwhelm you with results for OCZ memory products. But, if you refine your serach to PC2 5400 DDR2 you will see that both of the kits tested in this review have competitive price tags. Using the prices from newegg.com as a reference, the price difference between the Gold and Platinum kit is about $25 dollars (approximately $110 versus $135 respectively). Although both prices compare well to other performance DDR2 with similar specifications, the price of the Gold series really gets my attention. Considering how well it tested as compared to the Platinum series, I would suggest that you make like an Olympian and "Go for the Gold!"
Although the Gold fared well, the Platinum did do better. If you are planning on running at or around stock speeds and want the best performance you can get you will need to put up the extra $25 and grab a set of the Platinum PC2 5400 DDR2.
