im bored and i have the bug for some reason to get a new console. I'm looking to move out of pc gaming for the moment since everything is boring to me right now.

I'm not sure what console I would want to get however,

ps3 i get blu-ray but i dont really watch many movies so thats not a huge benefit to me.

xbox most of my buddies have but the console seems to have issues and long term i dont think the games will be as great

wii is sold out everywhere or i would probably get that

what does everyone on here own and what would you spend your $400 on?

For serious gaming, I think you should probably eliminate the Wii from consideration. We've got one and it is quite fun in a family or party setting, I don't think it gets the nod when it comes to fast paced action games.

This leaves the PS3 and Xbox360, I have no experience with the PS3, but have a 360. My teenager plays the 360 exclusively because all his friends are on xbox live. This would be my recommendation to you as well if that's were your friends are. That being said, we did recently experience the Red Ring Of Death and our console had to be sent in for repair/replacement. We've owned it for just over 2yrs before getting the RRoD, but many experience it sooner. MS extended the warrantee to 3yrs for this problem and it was quite easy to deal with them and get it shipped. We basically registered the 360 on xbox.com and reported the problem, they then gave us a UPS label to print out and put on the box. Shipping was free and it should be back in a couple weeks. There's no doubt it's a hassle, but i've had far worse merchandise return issues with other companies. Also, the newer consoles "SHOULD" be better, but I'm not sure.
I like the PS3 for it's Folding@Home capabilities and not only is it a good BD player, I've read that it does a very good job upconverting DVD's as well. There are quite a few good games for the PS3, but if your friends aren't using it you might not enjoy gaming as much.

Ultimately, I think it will depend on what games you want to play and just how much you want to game with your friends.

I have the PS3, 360 and Wii.

Wii - As mentioned, great for kids, family, party type events.

PS3 - I have two games for it. Motorstorm and Lemmings. Otherwise it's used as a DVD/Blu-Ray and Media Center.

360 - I do almost all my console gaming here. With the extended warranty and number of cheap games shoudln't be an issue with it.

Just a warning though, if you get into Rock Band, Guitar Hero, etc...hope you have deep pockets, all the add-on songs gets expensive Grin Especially if you have kids that play and want to have them all LOL

A buddy of mine is up to something like 400+ songs for Guitar Hero 3 Yikes

Gonna have to go with the 360 as well. I have it, graphics rock, many games.

Doesn't have Blu-Ray, which is really the only advantage to PS3. But I heard the PS3 is having issues, and the PS2 is actually doing better.

I have all 3 as well. I play the Wii when I just want to do mindless gaming (Carnival Games, golf, bowling, etc). I mostly use the PS3 as a Media Centre (hooked into my home theatre) and watching Blu-Ray movies but haven't played many games on it. I just got the 360 a few months ago and use it more than the others. It's also linked with WMC on my gaming rig so I can watch movies.

I'd go with 360 -- the new version should help with the RRoD issues they were having.

PS3 for me...wouldn't have it any other way.

Wii is fun, but I can see it getting old. Very good for parties/drinking games though!

360 is very loud, and IMO can't be used for home theater. Games selection is close to PS3, but it still seems 360 graphics still have a lead. Monthly online charge sucks, I hate paying for something that costs $300 + $60 for each game.

I have the 360 and the PS3. There are a lot more games for 360. Xbox live is nifty. However I like the PS3 more, I like the controller. I like the built in wireless no need to buy a battery/battery pack required. I can watch blu-ray, and when I'm not using it F@H runs.

i got a 360 last night... I dont know if it was the proper way to go but more of my friends had it. There werent many games that the ps3 offered that the xbox didn't... however thinking through things the wireless for the xbox is $100 which that difference would have brought me into a ps3 so we'll see... hopefully it will be the right move
